Industrial action continues at Newsquest York

Journalists at Newsquest York are continuing the industrial action over pay with a series of mandatory union meetings.

Last month NUJ members at the York Press and associated titles held a five-day strike. According to the NUJ some 34 out off 58 editorial staff took part in the stoppages.

They are protesting at a pay offer of three per cent (with an additional half a per cent at management’s discretion).

They now plan to hold chapel meetings every morning until Thursday, 19 June, at 8am each day.

The NUJ said: ‘The meetings are intended to last as long as is needed for business to be completed.”

NUJ assistant organiser, Jenny Lennox said: ‘We are very disappointed that management still refuses to take this matter seriously. Our members feel they have no option but to take further action.

‘The union remains committed to finding a resolution to this dispute and has repeatedly stated that we would be happy to meet with management but they continue to ignore us.”
