How to pitch to Live magazine

Pitch to:

For reportage features: Andrew Preston, commissioning editor, andrew.preston@mailonsunday.co.uk

For general features: Andrew Davies, deputy editor, andrew.davies@mailonsunday.co.uk

Type of article:

Reportage and general male-interest features. We are particularly keen to find specialist writers and photographers who really know a subject and can pick up on a news story in a specific region of the world that relates to our readers, or can write about the latest trends in say clubbing, bars or fashion.

Topics:

All topics including reportage, fashion, clubs, drinks, music, technology and general interest features for intelligent, aspirational men.

How to pitch:

The best way is by sending a short email setting out the idea in a brief format. We will come back to you for more information if the idea grabs our attention.

Post-pitch:

Email for a response a few days later. Don’t call. If you email again and don’t hear back from us then sadly we aren’t interested.

Rate:

It depends on the amount of work involved in the piece but for the right piece we offer very competitive rates.

What will impress:

A killer original idea that you can sell in a concise email. Someone who has read the magazine, knows our market and has an interesting new angle or idea. Do your research first. Too many ideas are far too unfocused. The ones that really stand out have a very defined idea that you don’t feel you have read before.

What won’t impress:

Someone not familiar with the magazine and the kind of features that sit well in it. Too many freelances clearly have little knowledge of the magazine or offer features which we can easily source ourselves.
