Bill Lucas has joined the roll of honour in the Highlands and Islands Media Awards.
He
began his career on the Hamilton Advertiser and worked on titles
including the Stornoway Gazette and The Scotsman before setting up his
own business, the Hebridean Press Service.
Lucas, whose journalistic career spans 44 years, picked up the Barron Trophy for his lifetime achievement in journalism.
It
recognises his efforts to put the Western Isles on the map through
serving all sectors of news as well as his services as a town and
county councillor.
Bill was nominated by Lewis journalist Taylor
Edgar. Edgar said: “Without Bill’s kind guidance and advice over the
years, I – and many other young journalists cutting their teeth in
Stornoway – would have been all the poorer as members of the media.”
