Help for young photographers

By Press Gazette

Photography and press agency Newscast has launched a bursary scheme to help the UK’s best young photographers reach their full potential.

It has teamed up with Norton College, Sheffield, the UK’s photojournalism school, to award a top pupil with a one-year working contract.

Every year a talented student – judged on their portfolio by tutors and Newscast’s creative team – will get the chance to work with some of the best photographers in the industry.

Newscast head of photography Eamonn McCabe said: “We hope to give young, talented photographers a chance to fasttrack their careers. We have been extremely impressed by the portfolios we’ve judged so far – and expect to see great things from the students we take on.”

Junior photographer David Parry, 21, above, is the first Newscast bursary placement. He joins this month having trained in Sheffield and with the Evening Leader in North Wales.

Paul Delmar, head tutor at Norton College, added: “This is a fantastic way for our students to learn their craft in a real business environment.
