Hello! under fire for Jerry Hall ‘exclusive’

By Press Gazette

Hello: "put together from cuttings"

Jerry Hall’s publicist has launched a scathing attack on Hello!, claiming the magazine misled readers into thinking it had an "exclusive" with the star.

The story appeared in last week’s issue which featured Hall on the cover and the coverline: "Exclusive – Life after Mick: Jerry Hall and new man Tim. ‘I’m sure it is love.’" But Hall is known to be privately fuming as she turned down a request for an interview. After a bust-up with Hello! a few years ago, Hall vowed never to speak to the magazine again.

Jonathan Phang, her agent at model agency Models One, said he was appalled by the piece. "I can confirm that it was not an interview by her or Tim. It is appalling that magazines can get away with putting a magazine together from cuttings," he told Press Gazette.

"Jerry would not do Hello!. She decided a couple of years ago not to work with Hello! and vowed then never to work with them again, so it is a bit sad.

"They approached her for interviews recently and offered her the chance to name her price but she flatly refused and won’t ever negotiate with them again. I think it is appalling they have gone and done that.

"All I know is that it has upset her and all concerned but unfortunately when you are in the public eye, people do take liberties," he said.

Hello! editor Maria Trkulja denied all knowledge of a complaint.

"Jerry Hall has said absolutely nothing to me," she said. "I haven’t been approached by or heard this from anyone." Trkulja said the piece was not billed as an exclusive interview but declined to comment on where the story had come from.

The article appeared in the week Hello! lost its bid for a Big Brother exclusive. Trkulja said in Press Gazette last week that the demands from the Big Brother stars were "too high" and she would rather spend her budget on something else.
