Joanne Hart, the deputy City editor of the Evening Standard, who is in negotiation over her dismissal pay-off (Press Gazette, 10 May), is believed to have written to Lord Rothermere.
Colleagues say Hart, shocked at her abrupt sacking after nine years, told the Associated Newspapers chairman that while she understood editors would want to get rid of people, she did not know why it had to be done in such a brutal way, not in line with Associated policy.
