IPC has lured back former Loaded editor Derek Harbinson to work on the launch of its new men’s magazine.
Harbinson last week quit his job as group editor of customer magazines at Haymarket and is believed to be working on the launch in secret alongside IPC editorial director Mike Soutar and former Later and Men’s Health editor Phil Hilton.
IPC is expected to launch a men’s title in the new year. Although there are a number of projects in development, insiders said the company would want to compete with Emap’s impending men’s weekly, known as Zoo Weekly.
Paul Merrill was poached from IPC’s Chat to edit the Emap launch and IPC has actively been trying to poach journalists from Emap.
Harbinson was made Loaded editor in 1997 but left a year later when IPC brought in Loaded co-founder Tim Southwell to replace him.
