Great news pictures celebrated at Press Photographer's Year Awards 2013

Agence France-Presse photographer Adrian Dennis won three categories at the Press Photographer’s Year 2013 awards yesterday.

The sports photographer won first prize in the photograph of the year award for the image above, which shows Thailand’s Nina Lamsan Ligon taking part in the Eventing competition at the 2012 Olympics in Greenwich Park.

Dennis also won first prizes in the sports folio and Olympics folio awards.

Elsewhere, Getty Images also produced three winners. Alex Livesey claimed the sports action prize, Ian Walton won the award for Olympic singles and Oli Scarff won the live news award. Scarff's photo, below, shows a man running away from police at Notting Hill Carnival in 2011.

The awards, now in their seventh year, were open to all photographers based in the UK or working for UK media.

In association with the British Press Photographers’ Association, the awards this year attracted 390 entries from more than 20 countries in Europe, as well as Japan, South Africa, India, Australia and the United States.
