Grampian staff secure pay rise

By Press Gazette

The conflict between journalists and management at Grampian Television over pay and conditions subsided this week as owners SMG TV agreed to an average pay rise of 15 per cent, to coincide with newsroom journalists’ new responsibility for desktop editing.

At a meeting between the NUJ and management last Friday, both sides thrashed out a pay rise for 20 newsroom journalists expected to video edit as well as report.

As part of the deal, suspended journalists Isla Traquair, Tyrone Smith, Pauline Fraser and Rachel Innes, who all refused to handle editing equipment, are to return to work without further action.

The move to Grampian TV’s new £5m newsroom has been postponed for a week due to unspecified technical problems.
