GQ magazine
has launched GQ Sport, which will appear free with GQ twice a year and
which aims to become the “the New Yorker of sports”.
The first
issue of the colour magazine contains upmarket analysis and interviews,
including a piece on London’s Olympic bid and profiles on former world
boxing champion Riddick Bowe and Wimbledon star Roger Federer.
The editorial team includes AA Gill, Tony Parsons, Richard Williams of The Guardian and Paul Hayward of The Daily Telegraph.
A
spokeswoman for GQ said: “Drawn no longer to the traditional
expediencies of tribal support or mere dumb statistical fact checking,
the theatre of sporting endeavour fascinates GQ readers – sport is the
new Hollywood.”
