GQ hits the newsstands in India

By Rachael Gallagher

Condé Nast launched its second magazine into the Indian market today with men’s monthly GQ, following the launch of fashion bible Vogue last year.

The 15th international edition of GQ, which has editions in Spain, Russia and Japan, will have a print run of 35,000 and be available in 40 locations across the country.

The debut issue features Saif Ali Khan, Yuvraj Singh and Arjun Rampal – Indian stars in the world of Bollywood, cricket and fashion – on the cover.

Editor of GQ India Che Kurrien said that the magazine is targeting India’s growing affluent male population. He said: “The new Indian man is earning and spending like never before, driving consumption in Asia’s third-largest economy, attracting a slew of luxury lifestyle brands. GQ will be his guide to all things cool and stylish.”

Arjun Mehra, publisher director at Condé Nast India said they feel that there is a clear gap in the magazine market in India for GQ. “We have been inundated by requests from our advertisers to launch a world class magazine like GQ in India. There is a huge vacuum in the men’s luxury market and GQ will bridge that gap,’he said.

Bauer Media’s FHM already has an edition in India, and Dennis Publishing announcing earlier this month that it is branching out into India, promising a launch into the men’s lifestyle sector in the coming months.
