Future is launching Simply Knitting, a monthly magazine aimed at 18
to 50- year-old women, as part of its growing portfolio of craft and
hobby magazines.
Billed as a publication for the ‘stitch and
bitch’ generation, a US phenomenon where creative women meet to knit
and socialise, it goes on sale on 31 March, priced £3.99, with an
initial print run of 65,000.
The pastime, traditionally viewed as
the preserve of the elderly, has seen a resurgence in popularity of
late and the 100-page magazine hopes to show the younger generation how
to get started with easy to follow instructions, new product and
technical advice.
With around five million knitters in the UK,
the biggest growth is from the under-25s. Celebrity devotees include
Geri Haliwell, Russell Crowe, Winona Ryder and Naomi Campbell.
