Frew loses brave battle with cancer

By Mary Stevens

Western Daily Press features editor George Frew has lost his battle with lung cancer.

After being diagnosed with the illness a year ago, Frew gave the paper’s readers an honest and moving account of his life as he faced chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and then the news that he had only months to live.

It was for these articles that Frew was named Feature Writer of the Year in the Regional Press Awards earlier this month.

His funeral will be held on Monday, 21 July, at 1.30pm at St Mary Redcliffe Church, Bristol. The service will be followed by cremation at Canford Crematorium, Westbury-on-Trym. There will be drinks afterwards at The Cottage, Baltic Walk, Bristol.

Frew died at his Bristol riverside home on Saturday, 12 July.

Press Gazette will be running his final column, written in April, next week.
