Former Swindon Advertiser editor Dave King takes charge of Newsquest’s newly-acquired Berkshire titles

By William Turvill

Former Swindon Advertiser editor Dave King has taken charge of Newsquest's newly-acquired Berkshire titles.

King, who was also formerly deputy editor of the Southern Daily Echo, has been named editor-in-chief of the area, overseeing weekly titles including the Reading Chronicle, Bracknell News and Slough Observer.

These titles were acquired by Newsquest when it bought Romanes Media Group in May 2015 for £15.2m

In September last year Reading Chronicle editor Lesley Potter resigned from the paper she had edited since the summer of 2014. The Chronicle, News and Observer now each have content editors working beneath King.

According to his LinkedIn page, King was deputy editor of the Southern Daily Echo between 2002 and 2007 and then editor of the Swindon Advertiser from 2007 to 2011.

He was then head of news in East Sussex for Johnston Press until October 2013. In August 2014, he took up the position of NCTJ journalism programme leader at Highbury College in Portsmouth.

King will report to Ian Murray, who is editor-in-chief of the Southern Daily Echo and group editor of Newsquest Hampshire and Berkshire.
