Jim McClure, former editor of the Oxford Mail, has died aged 66.
McClure joined the Mail in 1966 as a sub-editor. He retired as its editor at the end of 1993 after a period of ill health and died from respiratory failure at Oxford's Radcliffe Infirmary on Saturday.
Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1939, McClure became a crime reporter and photographer for the Natal Witness.
He left the Mail in 1974 to pursue a successful career as a crime novelist. He then rejoined Newsquest Oxfordshire in 1986.
As well as the Oxford Mail, McClure has edited the Oxford Times, the Herald Series, the Bicester Advertiser, the Witney & West Oxfordshire Gazette and the Oxford Star.
His funeral will be at St Mary's Church, Wallingford, at 2pm on Wednesday, 5 July.
