The man who sold Times Newspapers to Rupert Murdoch has died age 82.
Born in Toronto, Ken Thomson, as he remained when in Canada despite his title of Lord Thomson of Fleet in the UK, was the son of newspaper magnate Roy Thomson.
He inherited Times Newspapers in 1976 after his father's death. He later sold the titles to Rupert Murdoch in 1980 after years of industrial troubles.
The Thomson conglomerate included 40 newspapers in Canada, including the country's only national daily, the Toronto Globe and Mail, and many more in the United States.
