Five to give daily updates on Iraq

By Press Gazette

Channel Five is to dedicate its half-hour 7.30pm news bulletin to the looming crisis over Iraq every evening from Monday.

Veteran war correspondent Martin Bell will join Kirsty Young and Charlie Stayt in the studio to provide analysis on the diplomatic, military and political issues of the day.

Foreign correspondent James Bays will be reporting from Baghdad and Cathy Jones will be stationed with the British Army in Kuwait. The programme will also include a summary of other news.

Chris Shaw, Five’s senior controller of news and current affairs said the channel had decided on a news programme dedicated to Iraq, as it is likely to dominate the news agenda for the foreseeable future.
