Fancy being mentored by Rageh Omaar or Fergal Keane? John Schofield trust applications close on Friday

By Jimmy Nicholls

The John Schofield Trust has announced its list of mentors for 2014, including the BBC’s Fergal Keane, ITV’s Rageh Omaar and Sky’s Michelle Clifford.

Since 2012 the Trust has given 25 journalists with between two and five years’ experience the opportunity to be mentored by prominent figures in the industry.

John Schofield was a war correspondent who worked in Northern Ireland, the Middle East and the Balkans.

While reporting on the Yugoslavian conflicts in 1995 for the BBC’s World in Action he was killed by Croatian soldiers, the 76th journalist to die during the wars.

His wife, friends and family set up the trust intially to fund the Royal Television Society Young Journalist of the Year bursary.

The full list of mentors, which includes luminaries from Channel 4, Al Jazeera and CNN, can be found on the Trust’s website.

Those wishing to apply for a mentorship must do so by 31 January.
