Express NUJ stoppage vote

By Press Gazette

Journalists at Express Newspapers were due to press on with a
mandatory twohour chapel meeting on Friday despite staff in Glasgow and
Broughton voting to accept the management pay offer of 3.3 per cent.

Management
has told staff they won’t get paid for coming in on Friday and said it
would challenge the legality of the move. At a meeting on Wednesday
afternoon NUJ members in London voted to go ahead with the stoppage,
which could disrupt production of weekend papers.

Staff are
unhappy at minimum pay levels, with many qualified journalists earning
less than £30,000, and they also want more holiday than the current
basic of 23 days.
