The former publishing director of Emap’s glossy women’s magazines has announced the launch of a new monthly newspaper for English-speaking expatriates living in France.
Nicki Wade, who moved to France in 2004 after a decade at Emap, has hired former Independent on Sunday news editor Michael Streeter to edit The French Post, which is due to launch in June.
The paper will have an initial print run of 10,000 and will be printed in the Berliner format used by The Guardian.
It will be split into four – a main news section, “living”, “kids” and “work and money”, and will cover other topics including politics, food, property, business, art and history.
The paper estimates that there are about 200,000 expats living in France, a number that has risen sharply over the past 10 years. They include working professionals, retired people, young families and second homeowners.
Wade said The French Post aimed to offer a new route to market for advertisers looking to target the expat market.
“We have ambitious aims for The French Post to become a feature of French life itself,” she said.
“The French Post will not inhabit a parallel universe or be separate from France, we want it to be part of the very fabric of French society.
“Readers will not only find the views and opinions of expats, but of French contributors too.
“It is only by listening to French commentators, friends, neighbours and colleagues that we start to understand what really makes France tick.”
