Evening Star drops an award-winning column

By Press Gazette

Award-winning regional newspaper columnist Stacia Briggs has had her column axed in Archant’s Ipswich Evening Star.

Briggs’
page had recently undergone a redesign and her photo was regularly
teased on the front cover with Columnist of the Year written beneath it
– a reference to the title she picked up in Press Gazette’s Regional
Press Awards 2003.

Editor Nigel Pickover: “We review our columns
all the time. New ones come, older ones go. We very much enjoyed
Stacia’s column, but we have now moved on. We wish her all the best
with her excellent writing in the future.”

Briggs said: “I don’t understand why they have made their decision, but it’s their decision.” She will continue to write her column in the Norwich Evening News, another Archant title.
