Birmingham journalist Jamsheed Din (above) has learnt Arabic to help him in his job as a reporter specialising in ethnic issues for the Evening Mail.
Din already speaks Urdu and Punjabi and has just completed a three-month language course in Jordan. He has been with the paper for a year since completing a Trinity Mirror training course.
He said: “It will stand me in good stead in my job highlighting issues which are of importance to the city’s ethnic communities.”
Mail editor Roger Borrell said: “When Jamsheed asked for time off to take the course I had no hesitation in saying yes. Obviously we missed him in the newsroom while he was away but he has returned with an added string to his bow and we are proud to have a reporter of such talent working with the ethnic community in Birmingham.”
