End of an era as last newspaper rolls off Wapping presses

Saturday night saw a genuine event in newspaper history – the last ever copy of a News International paper rolled off the presses at the company’s Wapping headquarters.

Now. all four of Rupert and now James Murdoch’s company’s papers are being made at the multimillion pound state-of-the-art printing plant at Broxbourne in north London.

Printweek reporters were invited along to see the action, as a skeleton staff of just 30 oversaw a print run of 60,000. The last Wapping newspaper, a Sunday Times,
