Celeb weekly Closer, Haymarket’s Marketing and William Reed’s Food
Manufacture have taken top honours in the annual Periodical
Publishers’ Association Magazine Awards.
The consumer editor of the year was Conor McNicholas for IPC’s NME,
and Business and professional magazine editor of the year was John
Welsh of Travel Trade Gazette.
Emap’s Closer was named the winner
in the consumer magazine of the year category for its success in moving
into profit in less than two years and for “breaking scoops, a modern
and fresh look, cheerful outlook and redefinition of the women’s
weeklies market”.
It was a good night for Emap all round. Mark
Elliot was named consumer publisher of the year, Trail won consumer
specialist magazine of the year, Motorcycle News was interactive
consumer magazine of the year, FHM won international consumer magazine
of the year and Andy Thomas of Car magazine won consumer designer of
the year.
In the business and professional sector, Media Week’s Dave McCullough won designer of the year for his work on its relaunch.
