Editor quits Pregnancy & Birth after a month

By Press Gazette

Emap is looking for a new editor for Pregnancy & Birth magazine after Una Rice quit within weeks of getting the job.

Rice, who was appointed editor at the start of October, resigned because her husband was headhunted and offered a top job in Ireland.

She has agreed to stay on until a new editor is appointed in February.

“It’s a tough decision to make, especially with a company that has been so supportive, but I have three children to consider and I hope to look for an exciting opportunity in Dublin or Belfast,” she said.

Rice took over the editorship from Elena Dalrymple, who is on maternity leave. Rice was herself on maternity leave when she got the job.

Dalrymple is due to return to Emap in April to edit Mother & Baby magazine, replacing Dani Zur, who was promoted to publisher in July.

Zur said Rice’s departure was “a real loss” for the magazine, but she understood her reasons for leaving.

Before joining Pregnancy & Birth, Rice was deputy editor and features editor on Mother & Baby. She also worked on the weeklies Take A Break and Chat, where she was deputy features editor.

“I hope to put in place in the next few issues the strategies I had for the magazine.

“I hope that will come to fruition and whoever takes over will continue to grow the magazine in that direction,” Rice said.
