A group of students from Cardiff University won the top prize at the first Magazine Academy competition for their magazine Dedicated.
The competition was set up by the Periodical Training Council and UPM-Kymmene to give students from PTC-accredited courses an opportunity to have their work published and distributed to the magazine industry.
The students were asked to produce a 24-page magazine devoted to teen, women’s lifestyle, sports or homes and gardens.
The judges said Dedicated was “a breathtaking, truly professional magazine”. Lindsay Nicholson, editor-in-chief of Good Housekeeping and chairman of the PTC editorial training committee, said the students’ editorial was “strong with humour and a high degree of attention to detail”.
Blunt, also produced by Cardiff University students, and In Search Of, by students from Surrey Institute of Art & Design, were also commended.
