The Daily Sport has apologised “unreservedly” for publishing a faked naked photograph of an Eastenders actress it claimed to have found on the internet.
The Press Complaints Commission today upheld the complaint from actress Lacey Turner, who plays Stacey Slater in the BBC1 soap, who complained after a photo or her head superimposed onto a naked woman’s body was printed in the paper.
The PCC said in today’s judgement: “The complainant considered that the newspaper had failed to make it sufficiently clear that this was a ‘fake’ image.”
Turner also questioned the paper’s claim to have found the image online already altered on the Internet.
The Sport has promised not to publish any such images of Eastenders cast members.
In a separate case the Daily Mail admitted falsely reporting a dispute between Blue Peter presenter Konnie Huq and estate agent Foxtons.
The Mail said in a correction: “An article on this website published from 4 to 13 July suggested that Konnie Huq had won a legal battle with estate agents Foxtons.
“Foxtons have asked us to make clear that Miss Huq did not win the case. Miss Huq withdrew her claims in their entirety against Foxtons and Foxtons agreed to stay proceedings against Miss Huq on the basis of an agreed financial payment from Miss Huq to Foxtons.”
