Daily Record and Sunday Mail have dedicated editors again

By Dominic Ponsford

Two of Scotland's biggest newspapers have new editors: Murray Foote has been made editor of the Daily Record and Jim Wilson is editor of the Sunday Mail.

It is a return to having dedicated editors for the two titles, which were previously both edited by Allan Rennie. Last week Rennie was promoted to managing director of Trinity Mirror's Media Scotland division following the departure of Denise West to join DC Thomson. Rennie remains editor in chief of the Record and Mail.

He said: "Murray and Jim and two of Scotland's most experienced and talented journalists and I am delighted to have them at the helm in a historic year, where our nation hosts the Commonwealth Games, Ryder Cup, World War 1 Commemoration and the Independence Referendum.

"As well as maintaining our position as Scotland's best print brands they will be responsible for driving and accelerating our digital audience growth."

Foote said: "Having worked for the Daily Record for the best part of 23 years, it is an immense privilege to be appointed editor of Scotland's newspaper.

"It will be my honour to lead the country's finest team of journalists as we embark on a momentous year for our country."

Foote became deputy editor of the Record in 2000 and group editor of Media Scotland in January 2012.He has previously worked for the Dundee Evening Telegraph, Aberdeen Evening Express, the Glasgow Evening Times, Scottish Daily Mail and the Scottish Mirror.
