Dacre made dean of media studies

By Press Gazette

Nigel Dacre, who quit as editor of ITN news on ITV in September, has been appointed the dean of media studies at the London College of Printing, writes Martin McNamara.

Dacre will be responsible for the academic management of the media school and will oversee its move to a new £28m campus.

"This is a fascinating role," said Dacre. "The London College of Printing has an excellent reputation throughout the media industry, and I’m looking forward to helping to further develop the work and output of the media school."

The school spans journalism, photography, film, TV, radio, sound, multimedia, animation and media studies and has 1,100 full- and part-time students and 45 staff.

Dr Will Bridge, head of the LCP, said: "We are delighted that someone with Nigel’s background, experience and industry credentials is joining the senior management team at the LCP."

While managing ITN’s output for ITV, Dacre saw the news operation go through a difficult period. Flagship show News at Ten was moved and then partially returned to its timeslot. He also saw ITV slash ITN’s budget by £10m and 75 staff take voluntary redundancy.
