London-based law firm Reynolds Porter Chamberlain has produced a free guide to help journalists navigate the minefield of court reporting restrictions.
Produced in conjunction with the Society of Editors, the 30-page guide includes sections on magistrates courts, youth courts, family proceedings and divorce hearings.
It also deals with the thorny subject area of Anti-Social Behaviour Orders involving juveniles, made more complicated this year by the passing into law of the Anti-Social Behaviour Act.
RPC solicitor Kirsty Howarth said: “While it is generally accepted that restrictions on the media should only be imposed in exceptional circumstances, the reality is that the law in this area is becoming increasingly complex.”
