Entries are now being invited for the 24th Tom Cordner North East Press Awards.
The “Cordners” are 25 awards for news, features, specialist writing, layout, photography and overall publication quality.
They began as a grass-roots tribute to the Hartlepool Mail’s former news editor Tom Cordner, who died as a young man in 1976.
This year they also pay tribute to Tony Dumphy, head of editorial production at the Evening Gazette , Middlesbrough.
His
name has this year been given to the Splash Subbing Award, which he won
for the third time a few weeks before his death in September.
The
entry deadline is 14 March and Awards night is 14 May. The competition
is open to staff and freelances for work published in 2004 in North
East papers and magazines.
