Nigel Coombs, the veteran travel journalist who was editor of Travel Trade Gazette for more than 20 years, has been appointed editor of Travelplus, the business travel magazine.
Coombs said plans to expand the magazine would be put on hold while the industry tried to recover from world events such as September 11, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and the SARS virus.
He said: “Simon Ward, the publisher who took me on, has some very ambitious plans but for now it’s going to be consolidation. The travel market is depressed at the moment and things are very difficult. But there are some encouraging things happening too and once it has picked up we hope to grow very fast.”
Coombs has also worked in the broadcast industry and was a presenter on Radio 4’s Breakaway programme. He also presented travel news on BBC’s Breakfast Time.
