Trinity Mirror launches internal newswire sharing content between all its newspaper titles

By Press Gazette

Trinity Mirror has launched a new internal newswire service aimed to further share content between its various regional and national newspaper titles.

According to Trinity Mirror, stories and pictures appear on the TMWire shortly after they are wired to the desk. If the story is an exclusive, content may not appear until a few hours before publication and be marked up with an embargo.

Trinity Mirror is the UK’s biggest regional newspaper publisher (by circulation) 132 titles. It also publishes then Daily Mirror, Sunday Mirror, People, Daily Record and Sunday Mail.

In January this year, Trinity Mirror announced plans to axe 92 regional newspaper journalists and create 52 new jobs split between the nationals and regionals. It is part of a One Trinity Mirror strategy which aims to see the national and regional titles work together more closely

Trinity Mirror said: “TMwire is a platform for all Trinity Mirror centres to put editorial content onto an internal wire service on a real-time basis, with editors able to cherry-pick useful stories and photographs.”

A page three story in last Thursday’s Daily Record about Sir Alex Ferguson taking his extended family on a cruise around Scotland was published in the same day’s Manchester Evening News as a page four lead. The story also appeared as a short in the same the Daily Mirror the same day.

Trinity Mirror Media Scotland editor-in-chief Allan Rennie said: “TMwire is the nuts and bolts of Trinity Mirror – enabling all our titles to share free and valuable content in print and online."

Editorial director Neil Benson said: “We're still in the early stages but eventually Trinity Mirror Wire will enable us to share content seamlessly and speedily across all of our newsrooms.

“The volume of content available each day will grow massively and that's a really exciting prospect.”
