Competition between the Irish Independent and the Irish Examiner has intensified as the former’s publisher, Independent News and Media, has introduced its “compact” edition into the Munster region, which is the Examiner’s base, writes Des Cryan.
The Irish Independent declined to disclose sales figure for its new format beyond saying they are “at the upper end of expectations”.
Meanwhile, the managing director of Thomas Crosbie Holdings, owner of the Examiner, said that while his company had the technology to publish a compact edition it had no plans to do so.
“We are happy with our product the way it is,” said Anthony Dinan.
