The Mail on Sunday has signed up Carole Caplin, adviser to Prime Minister’s wife Cherie Blair, to write a weekly lifestyle column for the paper.
Caplin’s column will appear in the Night & Day section of the MoS and she has a 12-month contract. The paper is said to pay between £1,000 and £2,000 for a column.
It was the MoS which broke the story of Caplin’s conman lover Peter Foster’s involvement in buying two flats for Blair in Bristol.
The story sparked off a welter of national press stories last December about the links between Foster and Blair, after the 10 Downing Street press office played down his part in the purchase.
The MoS’s sister paper, the Daily Mail, clinched evidence of the fraudster’s detailed negotiations over the flats on behalf of Blair by publishing a series of e-mails which passed between them.
Blair was forced into making a public defence of her response to MoS queries.
MoS editor Peter Wright was unavailable for comment about his new signing.
Caplin’s relationship with Foster continues. They were in Paris together last weekend and intend to remain based in Europe, but he was deported this week from Ireland, where his mother has a home, to Australia.
