Chapman: named EU Journalist of the Year
European Voice business editor Peter Chapman has been named EU Journalist of the Year.
The 31-year-old Yorkshireman topped an international shortlist of 12 nominees selected by Brussels internet portal euractiv.com and the European Centre for Public Affairs.
Editor Dennis Abbott said: “We are delighted for Peter. No one deserves this award more. He’s produced a series of top-notch interviews with leading EU policy-makers and is one of the few journalists around who can make subjects like harmonisation, liberalisation and the single market appeal beyond the Brussels beltway. His interview with Claudia Schiffer on the harmonisation of clothes sizes certainly sticks in the mind.”
Chapman said: “I am very proud. And while I am not sure I am actually the best journalist in Brussels, I am not giving the award back.”
Runners-up were Brandon Mitchener of The Wall Street Journal Europe and Fernando Riccardi of Agence Europe.
It was the third accolade in as many months for EV, the Brussels-based weekly newspaper owned by the Economist Group. In December, it was named International Newspaper of the Year by the Association of Circulation Executives and in January deputy editor Dana Spinant was named Romania’s Diplomatic Journalist of the Year.
