Channel Four reveals face of More4 News

Caitline Pike

Sarah Smith, the daughter
of the late Labour Party leader John Smith, will be the face of More4
News when it launches on 10 October.

More4 News will air each night at 8pm on the new
free-to-air digital channel from Channel 4. According to Channel Four, the half-hour programme
will combine news with a forum for a range of perspectives and opinions.

Channel
4 News editor Jim Gray said: “Challenges don’t come much more enticing
than a new programme on a new channel. I’m delighted that Sarah will be
fronting this important new venture for Channel 4. She’s a great
television journalist with all the skills and attributes to capture the
spirit and vitality of the new programme and make it a terrific watch”.

Smith has worked for Channel 4 News since 1998,
and reported major stories such as last year’s US presidential
elections and the European constitution referendums crisis earlier this
year. Deputy editor of the BBC One’s 6pm news, Will Thorne, will be
joining the Channel 4 News to lead the More4 News team.

Thorne was previously senior assistant editor at
Newsnight, where he had also been an output editor and a field
producer/film-maker.
