Channel 4 News to cover Scottish referendum on Snapchat and Whatsapp

By William Turvill

Channel 4 News has announced it will be be offering Scottish referendum coverage on Snapchat (pictured, Reuters) and Whatsapp.

The applications are being used in recognition of the fact that 80 per cent of Scotland's 16 and 17 year olds are signed up to vote.

Snapchat is a photo and message service on which users are said to share up to 350,000 pictures a day. And Whatsapp is a messaging service which allows users to interact with text, images, links and video.

Editor Ben de Pear said: “With an audience of 16 and 17 year old first-time voters, this is a unique and exciting opportunity to share our specialist content on next generation messaging apps delivered straight to mobile phones.”

To get Snapchat content, users need to find the ‘c4news’ account. Whatsapp updates can be reached through messaging ‘INDYRED’ to 07768555671.
