The Duchess of Cornwall was guest of honour at a VIP reception to mark 250 years of the Bath Chronicle.
She told editor Sam Holliday: “I have been a reader of the Bath Chronicle over many years – it is a wonderful paper. I regard Bath as my city and I think the Chronicle does a very good job as do all our local newspapers which are so important to our country.”
Some 150 guests attended the reception at the Roman Baths.
The Bath Chronicle switched from daily to weekly in October 2007. It last daily circulation figure was 12,363, compared with a weekly ABC figure earlier this year of 18,505 – up 0.5 per cent year on year.
