Evans: ‘there is distrust all round’
Campaigning former Sunday Times editor Sir Harold Evans has called for a new royal commission on the press in the wake of the Hutton Report.
Referring to the BBC’s recent dispute with the Government, he wrote in a letter to The Times: “The present antagonisms.… seem to me to go beyond the healthy conflicts and tensions normal between power and its invigilators.”
Evans added: “There is distrust all round – distrust of government by the press, distrust of the press in government, and of the press among the public. It should not fester.”
