Brum revs up in drive for new members

By Press Gazette

The world’s oldest press club is launching a membership drive.

Directors of the Birmingham Press Club, which was founded in 1865, push-started a locally built Austin Healey to signify they were putting their plans in motion.

The club has been reinventing itself, beginning with its launch of the West Midlands Media Awards last year. Chairman Andrew Sparrow said: “Now we are to resume our celebrity lunch schedule with three big name speakers: former BBC supremo Greg Dyke, Channel 4 newsreader Jon Snow and Sun columnist Jane Moore.”

Dyke will be appearing on 30 September and the Snow on 12 October. Press Club members attending both events will be eligible for discounted admission.

The annual Birmingham Press Club Ball has been confirmed for 26 November at The Burlington Hotel, Birmingham.

Membership is free and anyone wishing to join the club should contact Tony Bell on 0121 450 4220.
