Ian Bedford is retiring from The Chester Chronicle after heading up its sports desk for 36 years.
Bedford has covered Chester City FC for 41 of his 44 years in journalism.
Highlights
in his career include watching the club get to the final of the League
Cup in 1974-75 and covering the Commonwealth Games in Manchester.
He also played a key part in helping the 230-year-old broadsheet switch to a compact format earlier this year.
Eric
Langton, Trinity Mirror Cheshire’s editor-in-chief, said: “Ian has been
a tremendous asset to the Chronicle with unrivalled knowledge of the
local sporting scene.
“It is amazing when I talk to journalists
around the country and they know I am from Chester, how many ask after
Ian. He is a well-liked member of the editorial team who has spent his
whole working life with the paper. His knowledge and skills will be
sorely missed.”
