The Austrian Times, a newspaper for expat English-speakers, has won a campaign victory and persuaded Heinz to alter the recipe for the version of its famous baked beans sold in Austria.
The campaign was dreamed up by the Austrian Times, which is published by the agency Central European News, last year on a slow news day.
After receiving complaints from readers, the Austrian Times analysed the content of Heinz baked beans on sale in the country and found that the sauce was considered too thin, and bean content too low.
As the Austrian Times reports, a Heinz spokesman said: “We are delighted to now be able to offer the 100 per cent original recipe from the United Kingdom. We have even changed the label to make it look more like the English label.”
