BBC Scotland’s new controller, Ken McQuarrie, has promised there will be a new emphasis on producing more local news.
McQuarrie also revealed he had no plans to introduce a Scottish-produced six o’clock news programme.
He said: “The audience are telling us they like what we are doing at the moment. What the audience does tell us is that they want more local news – that really is the challenge for us.”
Although a recent survey suggested seven out of 10 Scots were in favour of a “Scottish Six”, McQuarrie pointed out that a recent review of news services by the corporation had concluded there was no demand for such a programme.
