BBC ‘outbids ITV for Champions League rights’

By paulmcnally

The BBC is reported to have bid between £300m and £400m for the rights to broadcast Champions League matches in 2009 and 2010.

According to the Daily Mail, the corporation has “thrown caution to the winds” and outbid ITV in an attempt to regain some live football rights, after losing out to ITV for the FA Cup and the England internationals.

The Mail on Sunday, meanwhile, has used the Freedom of Information Act to reveal that the BBC Trust spent more than £20,000 on hospitality for “opinion formers and stakeholders” during the Wimbledon tennis championships.
