BBC names new BBC One controller

Jay Hunt has been confirmed as the new controller of BBC One, just three months after joining Five.

Hunt is currently director of programmes at Five, which she joined in September.

Hunt joined the BBC in 1989 as a researcher on Breakfast News, becoming an output editor before joining Newsnight, where she stayed until 1998. She then moved to Panorama as a senior producer, becoming editor of the One O’Clock News and then the Six O’Clock News.

Hunt moved into Daytime in 2002, working first as executive producer for Daytime in Birmingham before becoming senior commissioning executive for Daytime in 2003.

Hunt replaces Peter Fincham, who resigned in October in the fall out over the BBC’s misleading press clip of the documentary on the Queen. She will take up her new role in the next year.
