The BBC’s local video plans could resurface again in five years’ time, outgoing BBC director of nations and regions Pat Loughrey has said.
“What they [the BBC Trust] have said is we could return to this in perhaps five years’ time, when market forces could have changed,” he told Journalism.co.uk.
The BBC wanted to add up to 10 daily video clips to each of its 65 local websites, which are mostly at county level and based on the corporation’s local radio footprint.
The plan was rejected by the BBC Trust, which found the cost of the project outweighed the audience benefit and said the project could harm commercial media groups’ nascent online video attempts.
