Some 37 jobs are at risk after CN Group announced plans to close its print plant in Barrow and instead print the North West Evening Mail in Carlisle some 70 miles away.
The company has said that the move will not affect content. However, the distance of the new print plant is likely to make it much harder for the daily to bring out special editions with big breaking on-the-day stories.
The company has said that the move will save £1.5m a year.
