Lisa Barnard has been made chairperson of the Association of Publishing Agencies, which represents 370 customer magazine publishers around the world.
She is replacing Grahame Lake, managing director of Just Customer Communication.
Barnard is currently managing director of The Illustrated London News Group, which she joined in 2000.
She has worked in consumer, business-to-business and customer magazines, launching or relaunching titles including Inside Hotels, Classic FM magazine and Harpers Wine & Spirit Weekly.
Barnard said that the consumer publishing sector and the APA were at an important crossroads. “Over the past 10 years it has expanded hugely and built up critical mass to become a significant force in the media world.
“However, we recognise that we still have a way to go in communicating what a powerful tool a customer magazine can be.
I look forward to contributing to this process.”
