Barclays twins' Sark News wins democracy campaign

The Barclay brothers, owners of the Telegraph and Spectator, have won a victory of sorts in their long-tunning battle to bring democracy to the Channel island of Sark.

The pair, who own the neighbouring island of Brecqhou, learned last week that the Privy Council had agreed to call time on Sark’s feudal regime and introduce universal voting rights and a 28-member assembly.

According to the Times, the twins finance the island’s monthly newspaper, Sark News, which has split the close-knot community down the middle with its calls to put an end to the “deeply undemocratic, self-interested and self-serving regime” on the island.
